چکیده

Adapting transmission parameters to the future channel state is an appealing approach to improve efficiency in wireless communication. Adaptation requires predicting the channel state. Current channel-adaptive techniques assume that the prediction is perfect. In this paper, we claim that neglecting the prediction error can lead to poor performance results, possibly even worse than without prediction at all. We have simulated the behaviour of adaptive modulation and adaptive scheduling, as well as a combination of both for inaccurate channel prediction. The results show that prediction inaccuracy can degrade the performance of wireless communications when channel adaptive techniques are used. The sensitivity to inaccuracy is, however, dependent on several factors, like the adaptive technique used or the average received signal-to-noise level at the receiver.

Implementation of an adaptive burst DQPSK receiver over shallow water acoustic channel

In an environment such as underwater channel where placing test equipments are difficult to handle, it is much practical to have hardware simulators to examine suitably designed transceivers (transmitter/receiver). The simulators of this kind will then allow researchers to observe their intentions and carry out repetitive tests to find suitable digital coding/decoding algorithms. In this p...

Empirical Mode Decomposition based Adaptive Filtering for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Channel Estimation

This paper presents an empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based adaptive filter (AF) for channel estimation in OFDM system.  In this method, length of channel impulse response (CIR) is first approximated using Akaike information criterion (AIC). Then, CIR is estimated using adaptive filter with EMD decomposed IMF of the received OFDM symbol. The correlation and kurtosis measures are used to sel...

Adaptive Image Dehazing via Improving Dark Channel Prior

The dark channel prior (DCP) technique is an effective method to enhance hazy images. Dark channel is an image with the same size as the hazy image which represents the haze severity in different places of the image. The DCP method suffers from two problems: it is incapable for removing haze from smooth regions, causing blocking effects on these areas; it cannot properly reduce a haze with a no...

Channel Effect Compensation in OFDM System under Short CP Length Using Adaptive Filter in Wavelet Transform Domain

Channel estimation in communication systems is one of the most important issues that can reduce the error rate of sending and receiving information as much as possible. In this regard, estimation of OFDM-based wireless channels using known sub-carriers as pilot is of particular importance in frequency domain. In this paper, channel estimation under short cyclic prefix (CP) in OFDM system is con...
